This is a short form documentary I’ve shot, scripted and edited about a court case related to a protester from the Extinction Rebellion movement and his personal motivation for civil disobedience.
“This is the story of Thomas, from the Czech Republic, who decided he will not stand by anymore against the criminal inaction of the government and more specifically the mostly state-owned energy provider ČEZ, who is preventing a fast transition to a decentralized and green power infrastructure in the Czech Republic and who’s pollution is causing two premature deaths per day.
Thomas was arrested at a protest for spray painting 2025 on a building owned by ČEZ and is now facing charges for criminal damage, even though he used chalk spray and even the security guard confirmed that no damage was done. We’re asking him for his personal motivation and how he plans to defend himself at court and will show you the court’s reaction.
The Czech government is now planning to sponsor a new nuclear power plant, which would be owned by ČEZ [https://tinyurl.com/ycarq759] instead of using the money to finance much cheaper renewable energy solutions, which could also be operational much faster. However ČEZ wouldn’t profit from this and it would only weaken their position by allowing a decentralization of the energy grid away from big individual power plants.
