Dr Alick Bush, Clinical Psychologist in Learning Disability Services at Bermuda Hospitals, and Jennifer Howard, Assistant Psychologist, present on the topic of reducing the use of medication in restrictive interventions.

This webinar explores the approaches being taken in Bermuda to reduce the long-term use of psychotropic medication for behaviour management in Bermuda. The presentation identiies the challenges resulting from an absence of any clear international guidelines. Bermuda has a national database of everyone with an intellectual disability who is prescribed anti-psychotic medication for behaviour management. An algorithm of ‘risk factors’ has been developed to identify people who are of highest priority for systematic action. The webinar provides details of the strategies that are being used in Bermuda, and initial outcomes.
